Chat Now

I recently ran across this and am installing it to try it out on Countyfairgrounds.net – seems simple enough, although I must say that when something online “seems” simple, that is new, more then likely it isn’t at all.

HTML5 is hot and Flash is bad

Okay, I have said it for years – and anyone who knows -, and grows, knows Flash is bad for website design. I saw this coming a few years ago. HTML5 is going to fix this the problem with Flash. Its not the easiest to learn… but oh my, what you can do with it.

A lot of people get excited about Halloween, and heaven knows there are a lot of Halloween events. The first video is about done. It just needs sound and I will be working on it this afternoon. Its rather a spooky thing. Hey if you have any couple costume pix – I would love to post em for you.

HtML 5

Well, the first thing I have to say is that html5 is not that easy to learn. I am learning it and I have someone helping me. The Countyfairgrounds.net website is being re written in html5 – currently I am using Alaska as a test page. Html5 is different then html4 – now there are those who would disagree with that. Currently, I am learning how to write tables without using the table tags.
However, the above being vented, I have to say I see great potential for this in the mobile market. One of the things I have hated is that our fairgrounds site has about 450 pages on it – can you imagine rewriting each page for mobile? Read about html5 and its potential with this report AND, bye bye FLASH.

Small Business and new internet developments

I am constantly online. Being constantly online has its advantages and disadvantages. In all actuality I am a pretty good stained glass artist and I used also loved to crochet. I didn’t give up my exercising however, that I learned long ago to not ignore.
Things are not looking good for the small businessman online – in my opinion. They know for the most part that everything is going online and they need a website and some of them might even think about Facebook. However, the small businessman does not like nor do they have time for change. The fact is the internet is constantly changing – every day. Some of my small business clients feel if they have a website up – even though it is very old school, that that is enough. Some feel that if they pay me to do basic website design that I owe them the top of the SEO search engines too. They have not a clue as to how much work it is to do that. Some want absolutely nothing to do with Google Maps and could care less.
I know what the statistics say and what the internet marketing gurus say. We should be going after small business with our knowledge. So, this is the question I am going to ask all of you? How many small businessmen have you tried to help with a website, google maps, and facebook lately? It is hard. They are more interested in their business and don’t understand the net and are afraid of it and also most of these middle aged guys are set in their ways. They get angry when you try to change what they are doing.

Making Websites for the small Businessman, SUCKS

For about eight months I have been doing word press blogs, auto responders and Facebook Fan pages for clients. I have been doing them for the small businessman. Well, I can now tell you after doing this for this long. I am going to be working harder on doing my own word press websites in various niches and working more with Market Samuari and the Challenge, Immediate Edge, Ed Dale & Dan Raine.
My experiences with the small businessman have been anything but positive. They want to rank on top. Well, once I get them ranked on top of Google (for very little cash input I might add). They want me to sell there business items for them.
Unfortunately, most of them will not follow my instructions on how to blog post – I have only been asking them to do a minimum of three a week – short ones, they don’t use twitter, and they will not use Facebook. It has worn me out. I have for instance a plumber I built a beautiful website for. He was rising in the search engines – in Google quite rapidly and then when he was at the top of page three he decided to quit using twitter and quit using the Fan page we worked so hard on building. His reasoning was – it hasn’t made me any money. I was about three months into the project and when we were finally starting to see results he pulled out.
There is a landscaper – who I got to the top of the search engines for a lot of terms. He is still there. He is mad cause he isn’t getting a ton of new clients and no one has commented on how good looking his website is recently. When the website was first up, he got a new client off of it – who paid him a lot of money, and someone commented on how great his website looked. No one has commented in a a couple months, nor has he gotten any new business off it. I might point out that he isn’t getting any business out of the Yellow Pages either right now. The fact is that the economy sucks in northern Colorado. He is going to quit on me and not pay me anymore.
I have a Real Estate agent – who is a woman, and she has seemed more interested and more positive. However, she is a new Real Estate agent and found out she could not make an immediate living in Denver selling Real Estate right now and she is currently looking for a part time job.
I have a Flagstone company in Westminister. This guy is great, but he is summer busy. His website has been sitting about 2/3 finished for four months cause I cannot get any input from him.
Then I have a client who thinks that paying me a measly 250 to get his website up and running (and he wants me to put him on the top of Google for nothing) was too much money and that I should make 20 million old fashioned changes to his website cause he wants them that way and I work for him.
The “moral” of this sad story is…. the gurus are pushing a lot on how the local businessman needs us and we can make money working with them. Well, if you want to try it – go ahead, me I am going back to creating a lot of little niche word press websites that have nothing to do with the small businessman.

Widgetbox

Widgets Rock

A few years ago, really not all that long ago, there were widgets. I was enthralled by them. Google had a whole series of them that you could add to websites withe everything you could image. As a designer looking for content I could not have been happier. Yahoo came out with widgets for your desktop, they were a fun quick way to spend you time playing around.

Well, widgets got lost with all the new stuff constantly coming out. Quite frankly I sorta forgot about them, in the effort to make money with my website design the widgets had to go cause they were taking up space.  Well the other day I stumbled upon this website. Widgetbox that has over 20 thousand widgets in the blogs category.  I got hooked again. While a lot widgets are a waste of valuable website design space , Widgetbox has a lot that are very very useful and easy to use.  And besides they are still one heck of a lot of fun. There is something about getting a program compacted, with all the code done for you in a widget that is very satisfying.

What is more amazing is that these can apparently be put on Facebook and IPhones. They come with ads of course. However, you can have the “get this widget” button and the ads removed by paying a very small monthly fee.

Here is to just having fun and getting interactive widgets for your website guests! Congratulations Widgetbox!

Website Design and Hosting

Countyfairgrounds, USA and KSRPublishing does website design and hosting. I have designed and hosted some neat websites, including but not limited to FusterBuskins.com and ColoradoNatureDesign.com and ParkCountyCoHiking.net – currently under construction is theManofMysteries.com – others are of course planned. The Countyfairgrounds.net website has about 250 pages I have designed and am constantly redesigning.

One of the things about letting me do a design for you is that I am pretty familiar with SEO and know how to get you ranked. I am currently learning Drupal also. Ranking, SEO and Auto Responders are important these days. The game keeps changing daily. If you want to rank and look half decent you need to know some of what you are doing. I do and am constantly learning and adapting. So take a look at the websites I have designed and the following links and let me know what you think and of course ask questions.

The best way to see what we do for website design is to visit the Countyfairgrounds.net website. For design   Website Design

Welcome to KSR Publishing

Hi, Welcome to my crazy world. Throughout the years I have done many things. I have published magazines, Tucson Healthstyle, the Tucson Convention Magazine, Colorado Springs Healthstyle,  hotel guest directories and various print projects. I never liked print too much. I certainly know how to do it. Print is heavy to tote around and it is expensive. Besides, it destroys trees and most of it doesn’t get read anyway.

These days I am into something entirely different. The internet. Its also a love hate relationship. I love it in that it is not heavy to tote around. It doesn’t destroy trees. It doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to produce. Its great to do your own video and audio and I am sure we will have both here. One of the things I don’t like about it is that it has overtaken my life. I breath eat and dream about it when I am not online. It is extremely time consuming and is constantly changing. The technology is a constant challenge. For instance today I was looking at picking up a few new clients… They wanted me to know Drupal.. Well, lets see, I know SEO pretty well, html, css, how to use AWeber and Facebook, change video files from different formats, podcasting and Skype , Twitter, MySpace and WordPress and website design. The internet has overtaken my life. I love my Blackberry.

Oh, well, I hope I can help you in your enterprise. If you are looking to update a website or do local Easy SEO or need a website designed I can help you. I can also help you with print projects if you’d like.
